Up close and personal

Today I was in the office when my wife called up from the park across from our house, telling me to come down and bring my camera. So I grabbed the Olympus OM-D E-M1 with 60mm macro lens and went down to see what she’d found. At first this little guy was down in the grass and hard to make out, but he climbed up the flowerpot and I got down on my belly to get closer. This little Olympus is a dandy rig for catching such images. I’m quite happy with how it is working out.

I’m not sure what this little flower is called, but my Mom used to raise them in Brazil and we’ve had them around the place for a while now. They like a bit of shade and spread quickly. I’m sure they’re a weed somewhere, but one man’s weed is another man’s ornamental! We’ve been building up a plot for them around the base of a palm tree and today I decided to see how well the Olympus would pick up the details.

We’ve two varieties of this next flower. The red one has been producing since shortly after we transplanted it to the park. This one, however, hasn’t done much – but appears quite happy with our return from our recent trip north. I like how it’s framed by the fern behind it.
